Uncomplicated
We like to keep things simple and avoid overcomplicating church. We take our lead from Jesus, who focused on what truly matters—love, kindness, generosity, and forgiveness.
Adventurous
We believe faith is an adventure. We take risks, try new things, and aren’t afraid of failure. We want to go wherever we sense God leading us—even when it means stepping out of our comfort zone.
Diverse
We’re a diverse community, and we love that. We celebrate the truth that every person is made in God’s image. Whoever you are, you’re welcome here. We’re comfortable with differences of opinion and don’t fall out over things that don’t need to divide us.
Fun
We enjoy life together and love to laugh. The gospels show us that Jesus was someone people wanted to be around. We value a good sense of humour and try not to take ourselves too seriously.
Real
We value honesty and authenticity—in our relationships with each other, with those who visit, with the people we meet every day, and with God. We’d rather be honest about our struggles, doubts, and imperfections than pretend we’ve got it all sorted.
Different
We know every church is different—and that’s a good thing. God seems to be shaping us in some unique ways. We’re simple, down-to-earth, and not too busy. In lots of ways, you could say we’re not very ‘churchy’—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Becoming
While we don’t believe anyone needs to change who they are at their core, we do believe personal transformation is central to the teaching of Jesus. Cliché as it might sound, it’s about each of us becoming the best version of ourselves—growing in love for ourselves (which affects how well we can love others), for people in our communities and beyond, for the environment, and for God.
We’re convinced that growing in self-awareness is a key part of this journey. Alongside engaging with teaching, we encourage people to explore tools like the Enneagram, consider therapy or spiritual direction if it’s helpful, and generally make space for honest self-reflection.

Inclusion
Many churches describe themselves as welcoming and inclusive—and often they are, to a degree. But for some, there comes a point where an invisible wall appears: you’re welcome to come as you are, but eventually, you may be expected to change something core to your identity in order to be baptised, become a member, or participate in particular ways.
At Worthing Baptist Church, we see things differently.
Worthing Baptist Church is committed to the love and inclusion of all people, affirming diversity in sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, age, physical ability, learning disability, neurodiversity, and mental health.

At Worthing Baptist Church, we don’t run formal programmes or operate on a packed rota—and that’s intentional…
Our ethos is to encourage people to live out and apply their faith in everyday life, not spend all their time at the church building. In the same way, we don’t run projects out in the community; instead, we encourage and support our members to get involved with what’s already happening, and to engage with causes they’re passionate about, whether justice-related, environmentally focused, or something else close to their heart. Just as importantly, we value the small, everyday ways people choose to be kind, helpful, and caring.
Occasionally we’ll share a meal or have a simple summer BBQ. Some head to the beach after a service—for a picnic, a swim, paddleboarding, or just relaxing on dry land. Others meet up during the week or at weekends in cafés or homes—relational and informal, rather than highly organised.
From time to time, we run short-term groups for people exploring the Christian faith, baptism, or what comes next. We’ve reflected on books, explored the Bible, made use of tools like the Enneagram, and even watched episodes of Rev.together—which sparked some of our best conversations.
This is community that’s real, relational, and growing—at its own pace.
